ABOUT US

OUR STORY

Our journey began in January 2015 when Lisa and Traci Morris opened Filet of Soul Restaurant in Downingtown, PA. Their mission was simple yet profound: to love people and transform lives through the power of employment, food, music, and service. The restaurant quickly became known for its mouth-watering BBQ, Caribbean, and Soul Food cuisine, but its true legacy was far greater.

Lisa and Traci were driven by a passion for mentoring youth, supporting veterans with disabilities, and offering second-chance employment opportunities to individuals with barriers to employment. Filet of Soul became a beacon of hope in Chester County, standing out as the only full-service dining establishment staffed primarily by seniors, individuals in recovery, people with disabilities, and economically disadvantaged youth. Despite its unconventional staffing model, the restaurant maintained stellar 4+ star reviews and a loyal customer base.

In October 2017, Lisa and Traci decided to take their passion to the next level. By narrowing their focus, they broadened their impact on the community’s underserved populations. This led to the creation of Filet of Soul Catering and the Filet of Soul Culinary Institute at the Charles A. Melton Arts & Education Center in West Chester, PA, in partnership with their longtime friend, Jill Swavely—an entrepreneur, educator, and visionary in the hospitality industry.

Over the years, the programs and partnerships blossomed, expanding to include summer youth internships, holistic health and wellness initiatives, worker advocacy services, and a charitable meal distribution program that serves all four low-income census tracts in Chester County.Today, 2Fish Community Café is a thriving hub of compassion, purpose, and transformation, dedicated to healing lives and uplifting communities. Through passion and dedication, we continue to build a brighter, more inclusive future for Chester County and beyond.
